Reading

Our reading book boxes are on display in our classrooms for you and your child to change their reading books as you please. Your child will take part in a shared read or guided reading session each day and will read independently with an adult 2x a week.

It is important that you read with your child each day and a minimum of three times a week and evidence it by signing their reading diary.

During early reading it is important to not only practice reading with your child, but to build on their reading comprehension. Therefore, it is important after reading that you discuss the story and talk about the pictures. You can use questions such as:

What happened in the story?

Who were the main characters?

How do you think they felt?

In our classrooms we have a Rainbow Challenge chart where the children can collect smiles for reading at home, Children who have read the minmum of three times a week will be celebrated in class and rewarded with a dip in our PRIZE BOX!
