Autumn
Throughout this unit the children will be taught to:
- describe the movement of the Earth, and other planets, relative to the Sun in the solar system
- describe the movement of the Moon relative to the Earth
- describe the Sun, Earth and Moon as approximately spherical bodies
- use the idea of the Earth's rotation to explain day and night and the apparent movement of the sun across the sky.
FArTHER is the story of a son's longing for his father's attention, although the father has other things on his mind. Will they ever find a connection?
We will be using this emtional story as a basis for writing setting descriptions and letters.
Place Value
This term our focus will be place value. We will be using concrete manipulatives and pictorial representations to help extend our prior knowledge.
Who were the Anglo-Saxons?
After the Romans left Britain, before the Vikings arrived, the Anglo-Saxons controlled much of England. Throughout the Autumn term, Year 5 will investigate the importance of Anglo-Saxon settlement in Britain. Where they came from, where they landed, the changes they brought and what happened when the Vikings arrived.
