English - A River

The story sessions with Marc Martin | State Library Victoria

A River by Marc Martin

This half term we will be reading A River by Marc Martin.

We will be writing our own circular narrative and letters based on this book.

During this half term, we will further our use of 'The River' to write a diary entry and instructions. We will be exploring the writer's toolbox to ensure we use the correct features of each style of writing. A large fous of our learning is going to be linked to extending our sentences using conjunctions such as 'and', 'but' and 'because'.

In our writing we will always try to remember our:

  • Capital letters
  • Full stops
  • Finger spaces
  • Correctly formed letter
  • Phonics to sound out our words.

Other books by the same author:

We will be taking part in 3 lessons of spelling each week. This follows on from our phonics learning in year 1 and recaps lots of sounds we already know.

We will also be having daily handwriting sessions.
