Geography: Why should the rainforests matter to all of us?

During the spring term, Year 5 will be examining the features of the Earth's rainforests, the benefits they bring and the damage being done to them. We will focus particularly on the Amazonian rainforest, its bio-diversity and its relationship with the river Amazon.

Science

Throughout this unit the children will be taught to:

  • explain that unsupported objects fall towards the Earth because of the force of gravity acting between the Earth and the falling object
  • identify the effects of air resistance, water resistance and friction, that act between moving surfaces
  • recognise that some mechanisms, including levers, pulleys and gears, allow a smaller force to have a greater effect.
