History
As part of our history lessons we will be asking:
Who were the Ancient Greeks and what did we learn from them?
What were the main differences between Athens and Sparta?
What was daily life like in Ancient Greece?
Would you have enjoyed being a Greek Olympian?
What is democracy and what part did the Greeks have in creating it?
What impact did the Ancient Greeks have on our lives today?
This term we will be investigating light in science. The main aims for the children to achieve in this topic are to:
- recognise that they need light in order to see things and that dark is the absence of light
- notice that light is reflected from surfaces
- recognise that light from the sun can be dangerous and that there are ways to protect their eyes
- recognise that shadows are formed when the light from a light source is blocked by an opaque object
- find patterns in the way that the size of shadows change
The investigation work that they will carry out might include explorning what happens when light reflects off a mirror or other reflective surfaces, including playing mirror games to help them to answer questions about how light behaves. They should think about why it is important to protect their eyes from bright lights. They might look for, and measure, shadows, and find out how they are formed and what might cause the shadows to change.
There are some great books on our topic:
